Phase III OF The Peninsula is comprised of seven super high-rise residential buildings and an 8,000m2 coastal commercial area together with landscape and entertainment facilities. The project is located at the south side of Wanghai Road, Dongjiaotou, Shekou, Nanshan District, facing Shekoushan Park on the other side of a road on its north. Located on a rare peninsula of Shenzhen surrounded by seas on three sides, the project is neighboring Shenzhen Bay Port in the east, and overlooking the Western Corridor across the sea. It provides the first impression of Shenzhen for people coming from Hong Kong. Suporting facilities for the project is mature with the advantage of Dongjiaotou community at Shekou.
Superior landscape and geographical condition offer abundant possibilities for architectural design. In order to give utmost respect to the land, the designer makes the towers turn 30 degrees towards southeast according to main monsoon direction, sunlight and fire separation distance. Meanwhile, the landscape sightline is maximized and 70% of residents can have fabulous sea view. The designer connects surrounding landscape with the buildings through the sightline, and bring in the mountain and the sea with a central landscape axis, so as to create interaction with environment.
In order to highlight and echo with natural features of the land, the designer makes simple but stylish facades. The designer is stick to the principle that “simplicity and unification are kept in big scale, while surprise and interesting changes are made in small scale.” Thus, the facades look unified with interesting changes. The simple and orderly horizontal coastline is defined by the upright vertical gables. Blue gray and white aluminum plate are used for large areas. Against the absorbing blue grey background, the white aluminum plate, as the horizontal lines of gables and balconies, look more dazzling.
Design of the facades is a reply to nature. Upright folded sides of white aluminum plate make the gables sculpture works. Light and shades on the gables change with seasons and movements of sun, which enriches the whole architecture. As the spring rain moistens things in silence, the designer aims to record time with changes of the sun and to imperceptibly create a sense of belonging for residents.
Cantilevered balconies of the towers are combined in a simple logical way to form a unity through diversity. This exhibits the continuity and rhythm of the flow of coastal buildings as a piece of beautiful music, which is perfect interpretation of Hegel’s saying that “Architecture is frozen music”. When residents overlook the beautiful sea from balconies, they will become a part of the scenery in other people’s eyes although they are not aware of it.
Coastal commerce provides residents with valued coastal recreation experience. Light luxury fashion brands are introduced for different customer groups. The commerce and coastal landscape belt makes the streets vivid and interesting with rich elements, which can satisfy both material and spiritual demands of people.
Details of the buildings enhance relations between landscape and the buildings. Boundaries between glass material and stone material are dealt with the approach of stepping-back slits, without direct connection. This way creates atmosphere of free breath in which the buildings are breathing and enjoying coastal breeze. Landscape gradually comes into buildings. An open curtain wall system is applied to the whole The Peninsula project to exhibit a contrast between human’s elaborate design and natural surroundings. Meanwhile, control of construction venue and timely adjustment of details ensures high realization of design. This just verifies the designer’s attitude that every detail should be handled carefully with ingenuity so as to live up to the excellent resource of the mountain and the sea and the expectation of people.
The whole design conception is “courtyard by the sea”. Modern methods are applied to explore the core of oriental spirit and create an air of Zen garden and satisfy today’s living demand at the same time. With the design concept of “Coastal courtyard” and exploring functional demand from the users or residents, AUBE build a seaside community with functions of transportation, scenery, tourism and residence, in which people is the core and space is the media. In space design, through exploring traditional oriental courtyard landscape, we use “path” and “alley” to link the space of the front yard, backyard, Yuefu and veranda, and to emphasize the relaxed, quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the three courtyards namely “Facing the mirror”, “Listening to the sound” and “Exploring freedom of mind”.
Landscape and the project entrance are combined. Considering the project location in bustling city, the designer hopes to create a pure seclusion for residents. Thus, a front garden is set at the entrance as a public sitting room for people’s gathering, waiting, reception and separation. When people go through the front garden and enter the quiet inner garden of the community, they will be surprised by the open land of idyllic beauty in front of them.
Entrance— With support from lighting design, Bonsai art techniques are used to lift the floor at the entrance to enhance the sense of border and lifting and to define the entrance door with a stone frame. A graceful dwarf tree is planted on one side of the entrance. In this way, a transitional space with sense of ceremony is created for the people returning home and help ease their minds.
Design with unique ingenuity and high standard for materials create this comfortable residence near nature, which is a world-class coastal cultural mansion.
